News & HappeningsVCC has been in existence since 1968 and we have been an NAEYC Accredited school since June 2007; we are currently working on becoming reaccredited in 2011. If you would like to learn more about NAEYC accredited schools, go to NAEYC website and click on accreditation. New sign in/out area: Parents are able to sign their children in and out in the blue door, which is our Director's office, our teacher's library and work area, and the parent area. The parent area includes a large bulletin board and white board for parent information and community events, books to read to your children on our comfy couch or rocking chairs and activities for younger siblings. This is a great central meeting area for parents to talk with one another. Swine Flu Update: At VCC we check daily on the Center for Disease Control’s Website for updates and information on the H1N1 virus (swine flu). At this point, they are making recommendations for the current flu conditions. This may change if severe flu conditions develop. In any case, all parents will be kept informed. We will be following our usual cleaning procedures and being extremely diligent about watching for flu symptoms in children as well as making sure no sick child or staff remain at school. Symptoms of H1N1 are: fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatique. Some have reported diarrhea and vomiting. If your child has any signs of illness, PLEASE keep them home! During current flu conditions, your child cannot return to school until he/she has been fever free (without medication) for 24 hrs. We will send sick children home immediately. Please be certain your emergency contacts with us are up to date. We really need your cooperation to keep your children safe! Cold and flu season is approaching, please remind your children to wash their hands often, use hand sanitizers when available and sneeze into their sleeves. For more information click on http://www.cdc.gov/H1N1FLU/. Spring BreakSan Luis Coastal School District has changed their Spring Break this year, and we follow the school district's schedule. Please refer to the Feb. Director Newsletter for changes and dates you will need to know about in order for your child to attend during these two weeks. Upcoming FundraisersOur next big fundraiser will be the VCC annual Rummage Sale. Not only is this our best fundraiser financially, but it is also a good opportunity to do your required 5 volunteer hours as we will need lots of help. Also, the community looks forward to our rummage sale each year. So please start saving your saleable stuff to donate! Mark These DatesWe will be closed on two Mondays in February, the 8th and the 15th, to observe President's Day and Washington's Birthday, respectively. Lifetouch, the company that we will be using this year for spring photographs, is coming to Village on March 9th and 10th. They will be taking professional photographs starting at 9:00am on both days. Information will be posted at the school in the Parent Area. All children's photographs will be taken, then parents will have the opportunity to choose if they want to purchase the photos. Registration for children already attending VCC, or their siblings, will begin on Monday, March 15th. This registration will be for summer 2010 and fall 2010. For any spots remaining, open registration for the public will begin on Monday, March 22nd, 2010. The time will be posted later on. Music MattersMusic Matters classes are full at this time, but have opened their waiting list for those students who are now 3 and older. Classes continue to be offered Tues. and Wed. 12:20-1:00pm.
